Instructions
Preheat the electric grill pan to medium-high heat (around 375°F). Lightly grease the surface with a small amount of oil or cooking spray.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined—avoid overmixing to keep the burgers tender.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about 1/2-inch thick, slightly larger than the bun (as it will shrink while cooking). Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging.
Place the patties on the preheated grill pan. Cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side without pressing down (to retain juices).
Flip the burgers and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. Add cheese slices (if using) during the last minute of cooking and cover briefly to melt.
Toast the buns on the grill pan for about 30 seconds per side if desired. Assemble the burgers with your preferred toppings and condiments.
Chef's Tips
- Meat Selection: Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest burgers—the fat keeps them flavorful.
- Don’t Overhandle: Overmixing the meat can make the burgers tough. Mix just until combined.
- Resting: Let the patties rest for a few minutes after shaping to help them hold together better.
- No Pressing: Avoid pressing down on the burgers while cooking—this squeezes out the juices.
- Customization: Experiment with toppings like caramelized onions, bacon, or special sauces for extra flavor.
- Leftovers: Cooked patties can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
