Instructions
Prepare the patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside for later use.
Cook the patties: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Add a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking.
Toast the buns: Slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them in the skillet or toaster for about 1 minute until golden.
Assemble the burgers: Spread the prepared sauce on the bottom bun. Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, the cooked patty with cheese, and red onion slices. Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve immediately with your favorite sides like fries or a salad.
Chef's Tips
- Patty Tip: Avoid overworking the meat when forming patties to keep them tender.
- Cheese Options: Try different cheeses like Swiss, pepper jack, or blue cheese for variety.
- Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to ensure patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Bun Choices: Brioche, sesame seed, or whole wheat buns work great for different textures and flavors.
- Extra Toppings: Add bacon, avocado, pickles, or a fried egg for a gourmet touch.
- Vegetarian Option: Substitute beef patties with plant-based or portobello mushroom patties.
