Instructions
Juice the lemons: Roll the lemons on a hard surface to soften them. Cut them in half and juice them using a citrus juicer or by hand. Strain the juice to remove seeds and pulp.
Make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Combine ingredients: In a large pitcher, mix the freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and remaining 3 cups of cold water. Stir well.
Taste and adjust: Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice if needed.
Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve: Pour the lemonade into glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish with fresh mint leaves or lemon slices if desired.
Chef's Tips
- Fresh Lemons: Always use fresh lemons for the best flavor. Bottled lemon juice won't give the same bright taste.
- Adjust Sweetness: If you prefer a less sweet lemonade, reduce the sugar or use a sugar substitute.
- Infused Flavors: Add a twist by infusing the lemonade with fresh berries, cucumber slices, or herbs like basil or rosemary.
- Sparkling Option: Replace some of the water with sparkling water for a fizzy version.
- Storage: Store leftover lemonade in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir before serving as it may settle.
