Instructions
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness, typically about 1/4 inch thick.
Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Tear the mozzarella into small pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.
Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and dried oregano.
Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve hot.
Chef's Tips
- Dough Tip: For a crispier crust, let the dough rest at room temperature for 30 minutes before rolling out.
- Cheese Tip: Use fresh mozzarella for the best flavor and texture. Avoid pre-shredded cheese as it contains anti-caking agents.
- Sauce Tip: Simmer the tomato sauce with garlic and a pinch of sugar for extra depth of flavor.
- Baking Tip: If using a pizza stone, preheat it for at least 30 minutes to ensure a crispy crust.
- Variation: Add toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or olives for a different twist.
