Slice the tomatoes: Wash and dry the tomatoes. Slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Arrange them on a serving plate.
Slice the mozzarella: Cut the mozzarella into slices similar in thickness to the tomatoes. Place a slice of mozzarella on top of each tomato slice.
Add the basil: Wash and pat dry the basil leaves. Place a fresh basil leaf on top of each mozzarella slice.
Drizzle with olive oil: Generously drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the arranged tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil.
Season with salt and pepper: Sprinkle a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper over the salad.
Finish with balsamic glaze: Drizzle balsamic glaze over the top for a sweet and tangy finish. Serve immediately.
Chef's Tips
- Tomato Selection: Use ripe, juicy tomatoes for the best flavor. Heirloom tomatoes work wonderfully.
- Mozzarella Tip: Fresh mozzarella in water (not pre-sliced) provides the best texture and taste.
- Presentation: Alternate tomato and mozzarella slices in a circular pattern for a beautiful presentation.
- Balsamic Reduction: If you don’t have balsamic glaze, reduce balsamic vinegar by simmering until thickened.
- Serving Suggestion: Serve with crusty bread to soak up the delicious olive oil and balsamic dressing.
- Storage: This salad is best enjoyed fresh. If storing, cover tightly and consume within a few hours.
