Instructions
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place on a greased baking sheet.
Second rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Serve: Brush the warm rolls with melted butter and serve immediately.
Chef's Tips
- Yeast Check: Ensure your yeast is fresh. If it doesn’t froth, it may be expired.
- Warm Milk: The milk should be warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- Soft Rolls: For extra soft rolls, cover them with a towel as they cool.
- Storage: Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
- Variations: Add garlic butter or herbs for flavored rolls.
