Instructions
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a smooth ball and place in a greased baking pan.
Second rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.
Chef's Tips
- Yeast Check: Ensure your yeast is fresh. If it doesn't foam, it may be inactive and won't make the dough rise.
- Warm Milk: The milk should be warm but not hot (about 110°F) to avoid killing the yeast.
- Butter Brush: Brushing the rolls with butter right after baking keeps them soft and adds flavor.
- Storage: Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
- Freezing: You can freeze baked rolls for up to 3 months. Thaw and reheat before serving.
