Instructions
Prepare the fillings: If using optional fillings like chicken or vegetables, ensure they are cooked and ready to use.
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil to lightly coat the surface.
Place one tortilla in the skillet. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheese evenly over the tortilla.
Add any optional fillings on top of the cheese, then place a second tortilla on top.
Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom tortilla is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt. Carefully flip the quesadilla using a spatula.
Cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until golden and the cheese is fully melted. Remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing.
Cut the quesadilla into wedges and serve with salsa, sour cream, or guacamole.
Chef's Tips
- Cheese Choice: Use a mix of cheeses for better flavor and meltability, such as cheddar and Monterey Jack.
- Crispy Tortillas: For extra crispiness, lightly toast the tortillas before adding the cheese.
- Low Heat: Cook on medium-low heat to ensure the cheese melts without burning the tortillas.
- Customization: Experiment with different fillings like mushrooms, spinach, or pulled pork.
- Storage: Leftover quesadillas can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheated in a skillet for best texture.
