Instructions
Prepare the Brussels sprouts: Trim the ends and cut them in half. Remove any loose or yellowed leaves.
Cook the bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the pan.
Sauté the Brussels sprouts: Add olive oil to the bacon fat in the skillet. Place the Brussels sprouts cut-side down in the pan. Cook undisturbed for 5 minutes to allow them to brown.
Stir and season: Flip the Brussels sprouts and add minced garlic. Season with salt and black pepper. Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes until tender and caramelized.
Add finishing touches: Return the crispy bacon to the skillet and toss everything together. For extra flavor, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
Serve immediately: Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy hot as a delicious side.
Chef's Tips
- Crispy Bacon Tip: Cook the bacon first to render the fat, which adds incredible flavor to the Brussels sprouts.
- Even Cooking: Cut larger Brussels sprouts into quarters to ensure they cook evenly.
- Extra Flavor: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet for best texture.
- Vegetarian Option: Skip the bacon and use smoked paprika for a similar smoky flavor.
