Instructions
Prepare the vegetables: Dice the tomatoes, finely chop the red onion, mince the jalapeño (remove seeds for less heat), and chop the cilantro.
Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the diced tomatoes, chopped red onion, minced jalapeño, and chopped cilantro.
Add seasonings: Add the minced garlic, lime juice, salt, black pepper, and ground cumin (if using) to the bowl.
Mix well: Gently stir all the ingredients together until well combined.
Adjust seasoning: Taste the salsa and adjust salt, lime juice, or spice level as needed.
Chill: For best flavor, cover and refrigerate the salsa for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Chef's Tips
- Tomato Tip: Use ripe, juicy tomatoes for the best flavor. Roma tomatoes work well for a thicker salsa.
- Spice Level: Adjust the heat by adding more or less jalapeño, or leave the seeds in for extra spice.
- Texture: For a smoother salsa, pulse the ingredients a few times in a food processor.
- Storage: Store leftover salsa in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Serving Ideas: Serve with tortilla chips, on tacos, or as a topping for grilled meats.
