Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil to coat the bottom lightly.
Place one tortilla in the skillet. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheese evenly over the tortilla.
If adding extras like onions, peppers, or chicken, layer them on top of the cheese.
Place a second tortilla on top, pressing down gently. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom tortilla is golden brown.
Carefully flip the quesadilla using a spatula. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the second side is crispy.
Remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing into wedges. Serve with salsa and sour cream.
Chef's Tips
- Cheese Choice: Use a mix of cheeses for better flavor and meltability. Cheddar and Monterey Jack work well together.
- Crispy Tip: Don’t overload with fillings, as it can make flipping difficult.
- Low Heat: Cook on medium-low heat to ensure the cheese melts without burning the tortilla.
- Variations: Add cooked chicken, beef, or beans for a heartier meal.
- Storage: Leftover quesadillas can be refrigerated and reheated in a skillet for best texture.
