Instructions
Prepare the filling: If using meat or vegetables, cook them beforehand and set aside. Shred the cheese if not pre-shredded.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil to coat the bottom lightly.
Place one tortilla in the skillet. Sprinkle half of the cheese evenly over the tortilla. Add any optional fillings like meat or vegetables on top of the cheese.
Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the fillings. Place the second tortilla on top, pressing down gently.
Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom tortilla is golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the quesadilla using a spatula.
Cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until golden and the cheese is fully melted. Remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing.
Cut the quesadilla into wedges and serve with salsa, sour cream, or guacamole.
Chef's Tips
- Cheese Choice: Use a mix of cheeses like cheddar and Monterey Jack for the best melt and flavor.
- Crispy Tortillas: Ensure the skillet is hot before adding the tortilla to get a crispy texture.
- Even Cooking: Press down lightly with a spatula while cooking to help the cheese melt evenly.
- Customization: Add ingredients like sautéed onions, bell peppers, or black beans for extra flavor and texture.
- Storage: Quesadillas are best eaten fresh but can be reheated in a skillet to maintain crispiness.
