Instructions
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
Combine wet ingredients: Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place in a greased baking dish.
Second rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Serve: Brush the warm rolls with melted butter and serve.
Chef's Tips
- Yeast Check: Ensure your yeast is fresh. If it doesn’t froth, it may be expired.
- Warm Milk: The milk should be warm but not too hot (about 110°F) to avoid killing the yeast.
- Butter Brush: Brushing the rolls with butter right after baking keeps them soft.
- Make Ahead: You can prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge overnight.
- Freezing: Freeze baked rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Reheat before serving.
