Instructions
Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
Season the brisket generously with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder on both sides.
Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
In the same pot, add sliced onions and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
Return the brisket to the pot. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer.
Cover the pot and transfer to the preheated oven. Cook for 5-6 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
Remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
Serve with the cooking juices spooned over the top.
Chef's Tips
- Resting Time: Let the brisket rest after cooking to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist and tender result.
- Slicing: Always slice brisket against the grain to maximize tenderness.
- Smoky Flavor: For extra smokiness, add a teaspoon of liquid smoke to the braising liquid.
- Make Ahead: Brisket tastes even better the next day. Prepare it a day in advance and reheat gently before serving.
- Leftovers: Use leftover brisket for sandwiches, tacos, or hash.
