Instructions
Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Sauté aromatics: In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Prepare the sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce and stir well. Add dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Add cream: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream. Mix well until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Let it simmer gently for another 5 minutes.
Combine pasta and sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss well to coat evenly. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and stir again.
Garnish and serve: Transfer the pasta to serving plates. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and extra Parmesan if desired. Serve hot.
Chef's Tips
- Pasta Choice: Use penne or fettuccine for best results, but any pasta shape works well.
- Cream Substitute: For a lighter version, replace heavy cream with half-and-half or milk.
- Extra Flavor: Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for a more nutritious twist.
- Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat gently on the stove with a splash of water.
- Fresh Herbs: If available, use fresh basil and oregano for a more vibrant flavor.
