Instructions
Make the filling: In a bowl, mix ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, green onion, and cornstarch until well combined.
Fill wontons: Place 1 tsp of filling in center of each wrapper. Wet edges with water, fold into triangles, and press to seal. Bring opposite corners together and pinch to form a traditional wonton shape.
Prepare broth: Bring chicken broth to a gentle simmer in a large pot. Add a pinch of salt and white pepper to taste.
Cook wontons: Carefully add wontons to simmering broth. Cook for 5-6 minutes until they float to the surface and are cooked through.
Add vegetables: Add chopped bok choy to the broth and cook for 1-2 minutes until just tender.
Serve: Ladle soup into bowls, ensuring each serving gets both wontons and broth. Garnish with sliced green onions.
Chef's Tips
- Wrapping tip: Keep unused wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel to prevent drying out.
- Freezing: Make extra wontons and freeze them on a tray before transferring to a bag for future use.
- Broth enhancement: Add a small piece of ginger and star anise to the broth for extra flavor.
- Testing doneness: Cut open one wonton to ensure the pork is fully cooked before serving.
- Vegetarian option: Substitute pork with finely chopped mushrooms and cabbage for a vegetarian version.
