Cook the tapioca pearls: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a pot. Add the tapioca pearls and stir gently. Cook for 15 minutes or until soft and chewy.
Sweeten the pearls: Drain the cooked pearls and rinse under cold water. Transfer to a bowl and mix with 1 tbsp honey. Let them sit for 10 minutes.
Brew the tea: Steep the black tea bags in 1 cup of hot water for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and let the tea cool to room temperature.
Sweeten the tea: Add 2 tbsp sugar to the brewed tea and stir until fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.
Assemble the drink: Divide the sweetened tapioca pearls between two glasses. Add ice cubes, then pour the sweetened tea over the ice.
Add milk: Pour 1/4 cup of milk into each glass. Stir well before drinking to mix all the flavors.
Serve immediately with a wide straw to enjoy the chewy pearls and creamy tea.
Chef's Tips
- Pearl Texture: For the best texture, cook the tapioca pearls just before serving as they harden over time.
- Tea Variations: Use green tea or oolong tea for a different flavor profile.
- Milk Options: Substitute with almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
- Sweetness: Adjust the sugar and honey levels to suit your taste preferences.
- Storage: Bubble tea is best enjoyed fresh. Leftover pearls can be stored in simple syrup for a few hours but may lose their chewiness.
