Instructions
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the bratwurst sausages. Cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
While the bratwurst is cooking, warm the sauerkraut in a small saucepan over low heat or microwave it for 1-2 minutes.
Lightly toast the bratwurst buns if desired.
Place each cooked bratwurst in a bun, top with sautéed onions and warm sauerkraut.
Serve immediately with German mustard on the side and a sprinkle of fresh parsley if desired.
Chef's Tips
- Beer Bath: For extra flavor, simmer the bratwurst in beer before grilling or pan-frying.
- Grilling Option: Grill the bratwurst over medium heat for a smoky flavor.
- Sauerkraut Tip: Rinse the sauerkraut if you prefer a milder taste.
- Bun Choice: Use fresh, soft bratwurst buns or crusty rolls for the best texture.
- Leftovers: Store leftover bratwurst in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet.
