Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
In a bowl, mix the sliced apples, raisins, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Let sit for 10 minutes to release juices.
Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle on a floured surface. Lightly toast breadcrumbs in a dry pan until golden, then spread them over the pastry.
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the breadcrumbs, leaving a border. Drizzle with half the melted butter.
Carefully roll the pastry into a log, tucking in the edges. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the top with remaining melted butter. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Chef's Tips
- Apple Choice: Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor and texture.
- Dough Handling: If using strudel dough, stretch it thin for a flaky result.
- Juice Control: Drain excess liquid from apples to prevent soggy pastry.
- Serving Suggestion: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Storage: Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
